How to start

  1. Check that the product is on Ohio's cottage food list.
  2. No license is needed for cottage food itself. Selling at festivals or events may need a temporary or mobile license from your local health department.
  3. Package and label before food leaves your home. Vacuum packing isn't allowed.
  4. Label every product.

Key label items

Use the exact required wording shown in the full guide and on the agency's site.

  • Product name
  • Name and address of the cottage food operation
  • Ingredients by predominance of weight
  • Net weight or volume in US and metric units
