How to start

  1. Since March 20, 2026, Idaho's Direct-to-Consumer Commerce Act (SB 1283) replaces the old cottage food rule and covers many prepackaged foods, including some TCS foods like canned vegetables, tamales, and pickles.
  2. Tell every buyer the product isn't inspected, using a sign, label, or card.
  3. Sell directly to consumers in Idaho. Stores can sell your products on consignment as a designated agent, kept separate from inspected food.
  4. Made-to-order food, wholesale, and out-of-state sales still need a permit or FDA compliance.
